Wilder Tournament, 7th February 2008, Woodenville, WA
By 8:30 in the morning, the gymnasium at Wilder's was buzzing with chesslings. Kindergartners to K6 settled around their school tables, wearing school colors. Parents with rolled up camping chair, backpacks with books, laptops, chargers, health food, thermos. More fathers than mother. Equal number of girl and boy players. Most girls carried either a DS (pink) or a iPod Nano . Most boys carried some kind of a ball. Everybody looked determined.
A Swiss league with 5 rounds. Most kids made it through the 5 hours without getting cranky. Can't say the same thing about the parents though.
Rhea lost all her five games. Though she was in high spirit through the end. She came back with a Norman Rockwell Chess club tee, an invaluable tournament experience and will to go to the next one ...
